Star News INDONESIAThursday, (23 November 2023). JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo said that the Papua region is currently developing with development and economic activities continuing to increase, so better transportation facilities are needed. This was conveyed by President Jokowi in his remarks when inaugurating Siboru Airport and Douw Aturure Airport, on Thursday, November 23 2023 at Siboru Airport, Fakfak Regency, West Papua Province.

"Papua is increasingly developing, there is more development, economic activity is increasing, so better facilities and transportation are needed," said the President.

President Jokowi said that access to transportation in the Papua region is not easy. The President believes that there are still a number of areas that are difficult to reach, requiring long travel times from one area to another.

"Siboru Airport and Douw Aturure Airport which we inaugurated today will increase connectivity in Papua, increase people's mobility, increase goods mobility, and open up many opportunities to trigger the growth of new economies and new businesses," continued the President.

Furthermore, the Head of State said that the two new airports that were inaugurated would become air bridges in each province. The President said, for example, Siboru Airport, which is located in Fakfak Regency, West Papua Province, is considered to be able to connect with a number of other areas such as Sorong Regency, Kaimana Regency, and Teluk Bintuni Regency.

"Siboru Airport will be an air bridge in the West Papua region, connecting Fakfak with other areas," he said.

Meanwhile, Douw Aturure Airport, which is located in Nabire Regency, Central Papua Province, can connect Nabire Regency with a number of regions across provinces such as Manokwari Regency in West Papua Province and Jayapura City in Papua Province.

Therefore, President Jokowi appealed to local government officials so that the community can make good use of the existence of the two airports, both for the movement of people and to introduce the potential that exists in Papua.

"Using increasingly open access to introduce the potential that exists in our region, introduce existing tourist destinations, and increase tourist visits to Papua," he said

Also accompanying the President at the event were Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, Special Staff to the President Billy Mambrasar, Acting.
