Denpom IX/1 Kupang Probes Alleged Breach of Conduct by Army Officer

Star News INDONESIAWednesday, (04 November 2025). KOTA KUPANG - The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) reaffirmed its commitment to discipline and legal integrity after a Rote Ndao-based soldier was officially reported to the Military Police for alleged misconduct.

Pelda (Sergeant Major) Chrestian Namo from Kodim 1627/Rote Ndao has been reported to Denpom IX/1 Kupang for allegedly living with a woman without a legally recognized marriage since 2018, an act considered a serious disciplinary violation within the military ranks.

According to Brigadier General Hendro Cahyono, Commander of Korem 161/Wira Sakti, the case was brought forward following an internal review at the Rote Ndao District Military Command.

“I have received a report from the Commander of Kodim 1627/Rote Ndao stating that Pelda Chrestian Namo has engaged in conduct unbecoming of a soldier. He has been cohabiting with a woman without a lawful marriage, either by civil or religious standards, since 2018, and they now have two children,” Brig. Gen. Hendro confirmed.

He further noted that the soldier’s actions potentially violate Article 103 of the Military Criminal Code (KUHPM) — disobeying official orders — and Panglima TNI’s Directive No. ST/398/VII/2009, which strictly forbids soldiers from engaging in intimate relationships outside legal marriage. Additionally, the Army Chief of Staff’s Decree No. Kep/330/IV/2018 outlines procedures for dismissal (PDTH) for such offenses.

“We are entrusting this case to the authorized investigators at Denpom IX/1 Kupang to ensure due legal process. The TNI upholds discipline and the law without favoritism,” Brig. Gen. Hendro added, while urging the media to avoid speculation or unverified information that might damage the military’s reputation.

Meanwhile, Colonel Inf Widi Rahman, S.H., M.Si., Head of Information for Kodam IX/Udayana, confirmed that the investigation is a standard disciplinary procedure and unrelated to any other issues.

“We emphasize that this investigation is purely a matter of disciplinary violation. The TNI remains professional and objective in handling all cases. Any soldier proven to have violated the code of conduct will face the appropriate legal consequences,” he stated.

Colonel Widi also underscored that the TNI’s firm action serves as a reminder for all personnel to uphold integrity, moral conduct, and family values consistent with the Sapta Marga and Soldier’s Oath.

The case of Pelda Chrestian Namo illustrates the TNI’s unwavering stance that every soldier must serve as a moral and ethical role model — both in service and in personal life.
