Star News INDONESIA, Tuesday, (12 Desember 2023). JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo inaugurated the Ancol Sentiong Pump Station, North Jakarta, on Monday, December 11 2023. President Jokowi said the water pump station was a further step in the government's efforts to reduce flooding in the DKI Jakarta area.
"We hope that flooding in Jakarta can be reduced by approximately 62 percent," said the President in his speech at the inauguration.
President Jokowi said that a number of continuous steps had been taken by the government from upstream to downstream to reduce flooding in the Jakarta area. The President explained that these include the construction of the Ciawi Dam and Sukamahi Dam, the Ciliwung Sodetan, and the normalization of the Ciliwung River.
"Upstream we have completed two dams, the Ciawi Dam and the Sukamahi Dam, this has greatly reduced flooding in Jakarta. "Then going down the Ciliwung Waterway will also channel water from Ciliwung to the East Flood Canal, and also continue normalizing the Ciiliwung River, which is approximately 17 kilometers away," he explained.
Furthermore, the Head of State said that the Ancol Sentiong Pump Station had a development budget of IDR 481 billion and was the largest water pump station in Indonesia.
"We hope this will, this pump station will reduce flooding in seven sub-districts in DKI Jakarta," he added.
On a separate occasion, the Director General of Water Resources of the PUPR Ministry, Bob Arthur Lombogia, said that the Ancol Sentiong Pump Station has 5 pumps that will operate with a capacity of 10 cubic meters per second for each pump and will serve seven sub-districts.
"Starting from Pademangan District, then Kemayoran District, Johar Baru District, Senen District, Matraman District, Tanjung Priok District, and Cempaka Putih District," he explained.
Furthermore, Bob also explained that the area whose flooding will be reduced through the water pump system is 879 hectares out of a total service area of 2,500 hectares.
Also accompanying the President in this activity were Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency Hadi Tjahjanto, Deputy Minister of Finance Suhasil Nazara, and Acting. Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono.
