Star News INDONESIA, Monday, (16 June 2025). JAKARTA - Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has expressed strong confidence in the potential and strength of Indonesia’s economy. His remarks were delivered during a joint press statement with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto following the Leaders’ Retreat held at Parliament House in Singapore on Monday, 16 June 2025.
“Last year, Singapore accounted for more than one-third of all realized foreign investment in Indonesia. This reflects our confidence in Indonesia’s economy, as well as its immense potential and underlying strength,” said PM Wong.
During the Leaders’ Retreat, President Prabowo and PM Wong agreed on a series of concrete measures to elevate bilateral relations to a higher level. PM Wong emphasized that the Retreat symbolizes the closeness of Indonesia-Singapore relations across multiple sectors.
“We had a very productive discussion this morning—both in our one-on-one meeting and in the delegation meeting. President Prabowo and I both agreed that Singapore-Indonesia relations are in excellent shape, and we are committed to advancing this relationship further and charting a stronger partnership in this new era of cooperation,” he stated.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the expanded framework agreements that came into force last year. These agreements cover cooperation in defense, airspace management, and law enforcement. On airspace management, PM Wong confirmed that the Flight Information Region (FIR) Agreement has been effectively implemented.
Significant progress was also noted in legal cooperation. In the green economy sector, both countries signed three new Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) concerning cross-border electricity trade, carbon capture and storage, and sustainable industrial zones.
In the financial sector, bilateral cooperation was further strengthened with a three-year extension of the financial arrangement between the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and Bank Indonesia—marking the first multi-year extension following annual renewals in previous years. On food security, an MoU on food safety and agricultural technology was signed, including the Young Farmers Development Programme, aimed at sharing best practices in agriculture and food tech.
On connectivity and people-to-people exchanges, both leaders welcomed the launch of new flight routes from Singapore to Padang and Kertajati, and the expansion of cross-border internship opportunities for the younger generation. PM Wong concluded by highlighting the importance of regional cooperation and reaffirming Singapore’s support for Indonesia’s aspiration to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
“I thank President Prabowo for the very productive and constructive discussions we had today. He has long been a valued friend of Singapore, and I look forward to working closely with him to take our bilateral relations to greater heights,” PM Wong concluded.
