Star News INDONESIA, Saturday, (25 November 2023). JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo delivered his remarks while attending the peak event commemorating National Teachers' Day (HGN) 2023 which was held at the Indonesia Arena, Jakarta, on Saturday, November 25 2023. In the middle of his speech, President Jokowi asked a motivating teacher to come forward to approach him on stage.
Halfway through running, a teacher immediately went to the stage and stood next to President Jokowi's podium. Kuswanto, as he introduced himself, is a Teacher Activator from Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi Province who was also present at the event.
"Mr. Kus, what's the difference between this being a Driving Teacher and a non-moving teacher?" asked the President.
"Yes, well, the difference between a motivating teacher and a teacher who is not a motivating teacher is this, Mr President, if we are a motivating teacher, we are really trained to be learning leaders. "Then there is also learning that is in favor of students," said Pak Kus accompanied by applause from those present.
Mr. Kus teaches every day in areas included in the 3T (underdeveloped, frontier and outermost areas). In his teaching place, which is at an altitude of 1,539 meters above sea level (masl), cell phone signals are sometimes a challenge. He also conveyed it to President Jokowi.
"Thank God, at that time I was a Class 7 Driving Teacher, CGP class 7 graduated. "Then when I join the rukol (collaboration room)—because I have assignments with facilitators and instructors—I climb on top of a tree to look for networks so I am known as a tree person," he said, greeted by laughter from the audience.
Mr. Kus himself has served as an unsung hero for approximately 30 years. He was first appointed as a teacher in 1993. Hearing this, President Jokowi said, "Mister Minister, school principal," said the President to the enthusiastic welcome of the teachers present at the Indonesia Arena.
Not only that, as an appreciation for Pak Kus' dedication, President Jokowi also gave him a bicycle as a gift. "Mr Kuswanto, if he brings his bicycle, it will be difficult to send it from the Palace directly to his house," said the President.
After the dialogue, President Jokowi said he was happy because currently Indonesia has 50 thousand motivating teachers, 9 thousand of whom have become school principals. The Head of State also hopes that this number will continue to increase in the future.
"We said earlier that next year it will reach approximately 100 thousand, is that correct, Minister? "So that we have school leaders who are skilled at innovation and transformation," he concluded.
