JAKARTA - Shortly after inaugurating the newly revitalized Tanah Abang Station, President Prabowo Subianto summoned several ministers of the Red and White Cabinet to the Merdeka Palace on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the government’s long-term agenda for improving public transportation across Indonesia.
The limited cabinet meeting focused on strengthening national transport infrastructure, including ongoing efforts to expand the high-speed rail network and other mass transit projects in major cities.
According to government sources, one of the key topics discussed was the continuing negotiation process with China regarding potential collaboration in developing strategic transport projects.
The talks, which involve the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming (BKPM) and several other ministries, are aimed at ensuring that foreign partnerships align with Indonesia’s national interests and development priorities.
President Prabowo emphasized that the government’s participation in public transportation development should not be viewed solely from a profit-and-loss perspective.
Instead, he highlighted the social and economic impact such projects could have on improving mobility, reducing congestion, and supporting inclusive growth across the country.
“The government’s commitment goes beyond numbers,” one official noted. “This is about creating a transportation system that benefits all citizens and enhances national connectivity.”
The meeting concluded with directives for ministries to accelerate coordination and implementation of ongoing and upcoming transport projects, reaffirming the administration’s focus on building a modern, efficient, and people-centered transportation system.
