JAKARTA - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin met in a warm, cordial atmosphere at Konstantinovsky Palace in St. Petersburg on Thursday, 19 June 2025. A firm handshake and sincere welcome set the tone for a highly significant diplomatic moment.
In his opening remarks, President Putin extended greetings and expressed his pleasure at meeting President Prabowo once again in St. Petersburg. The two leaders had previously met in Moscow when Prabowo had not yet been officially inaugurated as Indonesia’s president.
“We are very pleased to meet you here, Mr President. Welcome,” President Putin said.
President Prabowo, in turn, thanked the Russian government for its warm reception of him and the Indonesian delegation, and expressed gratitude for the invitation to attend the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2025 as a guest of honor.
“Your Excellency President Putin, I would like to convey my gratitude and appreciation for today’s invitation and for the gracious hospitality extended to me and my delegation,” President Prabowo remarked.
After their tête‑à‑tête, Presidents Prabowo and Putin are scheduled to continue with an extended meeting over a working lunch, joined by their respective delegations. This gathering underscores both nations’ commitment to reinforcing their long‑standing strategic partnership and opening a new chapter of even closer, more tangible Indonesia–Russia cooperation.
