JAKARTA - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong have agreed to push for peaceful resolutions to a number of escalating regional and global issues. This was conveyed during a joint press conference following the Leaders’ Retreat held at the Parliament House in Singapore on Monday, June 16, 2025.
President Prabowo emphasized that both countries share deep concern over the rising conflict in the Middle East, particularly the situation in Gaza and growing tensions between Israel and Iran.
“We discussed both regional and global matters. We expressed deep concern about the situation in Gaza and the escalation of the Israel-Iran conflict. We emphasized the importance of peaceful solutions, negotiations, and called for an immediate ceasefire,” said President Prabowo.
Regarding the situation in Myanmar, both President Prabowo and Prime Minister Wong also stressed the need for constructive engagement to achieve a peaceful resolution.
“On Myanmar, we agreed that it is essential to focus on meaningful engagement and peaceful outcomes,” President Prabowo stated.
Prime Minister Lawrence Wong reaffirmed Singapore’s commitment to strengthening regional cooperation with fellow ASEAN member states.
“As a founding member of ASEAN, we will continue working closely with fellow ASEAN countries to reinforce our region and uphold a multilateral, rules-based order,” said PM Wong.
In a spirit of multilateralism and regional stability, both leaders underscored the strategic role Indonesia and Singapore play in maintaining peace and strengthening a rules-based international order.
