JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo inaugurated the Tangguh Train 3 National Strategic Project (PSN), in Teluk Bintuni Regency, West Papua Province, on Friday, November 24 2023. The President said that the production results from this project could increase Tangguh LNG's annual production capacity to 11.4 million tonnes. per year.
"And contribute significantly to supporting the gas production target of 12 billion cubic feet per day by 2030," said the President in his remarks.
PSN Tangguh Train has an investment value of USD 4.83 billion or equivalent to IDR 72.45 trillion. President Jokowi also appreciated the presence of PSN because it was able to absorb a lot of domestic workers, especially native Papuan workers.
"Currently, 70 percent of the tough operational workforce are workers from West Papua and Papua Provinces," he said.
The Head of State also welcomed Tangguh LNG's plan which sets a target of 85 percent of operations workers by 2029 being native Papuan workers.
"The 105 LNG plant operation and maintenance technicians are sons and daughters of West Papua and Indonesia who have been recruited since high school, who underwent an education program from BP in Berau," he continued.
On the same occasion, President Jokowi said that there are a number of upstream oil and gas projects and their derivatives that will be built in West Papua, including the Ubadari Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) project, the blue ammonia downstream project, as well as the Asap Field, Kido, and Red (AKM).
Also accompanying the President at the event were Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif, Special Staff to the President Billy Mambrasar, Acting. West Papua Governor Ali Baham Temongmere, and Bintuni Bay Regent Petrus Kasihiw.
