George Kambosos Not Yet Worthy of Challenging Daud Yordan — Here's Why

Kamis, Mei 01, 2025

Star News INDONESIAThursday, (01 May 2025). JAKARTA - George Kambosos Jr., the Australian boxer who shocked the boxing world with a controversial win over Teófimo López, has recently been linked to a potential bout with Indonesian boxing legend Daud “Cino” Yordan.

However, the idea of this matchup seems premature — even unrealistic — when assessing Kambosos’ track record and current form. Simply put, Kambosos is not yet on Daud Yordan’s level.

While Kambosos did once hold a world title, his career trajectory has since sharply declined. His back-to-back decisive losses to Devin Haney exposed significant flaws in his technique, stamina, and fight IQ. In contrast, Daud Yordan has consistently competed at the international level, facing top-tier opponents and demonstrating resilience, power, and strategic mastery in the ring.

Yordan is not just a former world champion; he is a symbol of Indonesian boxing excellence. With a reputation built on years of international experience and a style that balances strength with tactical acumen, Daud represents a challenge that requires more than fleeting fame and bravado to overcome.

If Kambosos genuinely seeks this fight, he must first prove himself worthy. That means securing a major victory — ideally on boxing’s grandest stage: Las Vegas. Only a win against a credible, high-level opponent in Vegas would signal that Kambosos still has the hunger and skill to compete with elite fighters.

As things stand, Kambosos' challenge feels more like a publicity move to revive a fading career rather than a serious effort to face one of Southeast Asia’s greatest fighters. Without clear proof in the ring, Kambosos risks being seen as overconfident and underqualified.

Moreover, expecting Yordan to travel to Australia for the fight is out of line. Kambosos no longer holds the status to demand home advantage — especially not against a global icon like Daud Yordan.

The global boxing community recognizes Daud Yordan as a true Asian legend, a Super Lightweight World Champion with a fighting weight of 63.5 kg (140 lbs). Until Kambosos proves he belongs in that same conversation, talk of this matchup should be put on hold.
