JAKARTA - The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, warmly welcomed the arrival of the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and First Lady Emine Erdogan at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
The arrival of this friendly nation's leader marked the beginning of President Erdogan’s state visit to Indonesia as part of his tour to three countries in the region.
Upon arriving at the bottom of the airplane stairs, President Prabowo greeted President Erdogan with a firm handshake, despite the light rain showering Jakarta that evening. Afterward, President Erdogan and First Lady Emine Erdogan paused to honor the Indonesian and Turkish flags, held by the flag bearers.
Together with President Prabowo, President Erdogan and First Lady Emine Erdogan walked past a military guard of honor, consisting of 20 personnel on each side. The atmosphere was further enhanced by the sound of six cannon shots and the melody of the “Genderang Kemenangan” (Victory Drums), making the welcome ceremony feel solemn and full of pride.
The cultural touch of Indonesia was evident with the accompanying music of the Gambang Kromong, adding a warm and friendly atmosphere to the welcoming of President Erdogan. During the ceremony, President Prabowo also introduced the delegation who had joined in greeting President Erdogan to the homeland.
As a gesture of respect and friendship, President Prabowo personally escorted President Erdogan and First Lady Emine Erdogan to their residence during their stay in Indonesia. The two heads of state were seen traveling together in the same car.
On the following day, February 12, President Prabowo will host President Erdogan at a state welcoming ceremony at the Bogor Presidential Palace in West Java. Additionally, the two leaders are scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting to discuss strategic cooperation that will benefit both countries.
This state visit is a significant step in strengthening the bilateral relations between Indonesia and Turkey, and it is expected to have a positive impact on the advancement of both nations.
