Star News INDONESIA, Monday, (04 December 2023). JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo expressed his appreciation for holding the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup where Indonesia acted as host. The President also said that Indonesia received praise from FIFA for successfully holding this large-scale international sporting event.
"Thank God, on December 2 2023, Indonesia completed the World Cup for U-17, it was successful and very well organized, and this was appreciated by FIFA as one of the best events," said the President in his statement to media crew on Monday, 4 December 2023, at Halim Perdanakusuma Indonesian Air Force Base, Jakarta.
The President said that this achievement was a matter of pride for all Indonesian people. Not only that, the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup will also have a number of positive impacts on Indonesia's perceived image in the eyes of the world.
"It will also encourage economic growth and tourism for our country," said the President.
Through this achievement, President Jokowi instructed PSSI together with the Ministry of Youth and Sports to explore holding the 2025 U-20 and 2025-2029 U-17 World Cups in a joint application with Singapore. The President believes that Indonesia and Singapore can carry out this mandate well.
“Saya yakin Indonesia dan Singapura akan dapat menjadi tuan rumah yang baik untuk kedua turnamen,” ucap Presiden.
Turut mendampingi Presiden dalam keterangan pers ini adalah Menteri Pemuda dan Olahraga Dito Ariotedjo serta Ketua Umum PSSI Erick Thohir.
"I am sure that Indonesia and Singapore will be good hosts for both tournaments," said the President.
Also accompanying the President in this press statement were Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo and PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir.
