JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo appreciated the optimism of the young generation of the Islamic Student Association (HMI) and the HMI Wati Corps (KOHATI) in looking to Indonesia's future. This was conveyed by the President in his remarks when inaugurating the opening of the XXXII Islamic Student Association (HMI) Congress and the XXV KOHATI National Conference in 2023, which was held at The Hall Convention Center, Qubu Resort Hotel, Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan Province, on Friday evening, 24 November 2023.
"I am happy to see the optimism of HMI and KOHATI cadres in looking at the future of this country, as previously stated by the general chairman, I am happy, these young people must be optimistic," he said.
In front of HMI cadres and members as well as KOHATI, President Jokowi said that there were a number of external challenges that the Indonesian nation had to face. This challenge is something that must be faced by future leaders so that Indonesia can leap to become a developed country.
“And future leadership is very, very decisive. "In 2024, 2029, 2034 it will really determine whether our country can leap to become a developed country or not," he said.
The Head of State also said that every country definitely has the opportunity to take the leap to become a developed country. This opportunity must be utilized as well as possible by each country.
"If you cannot use this opportunity, it will be difficult for a country to enter the ranks of developed countries," he said.
Furthermore, President Jokowi said that Indonesia also has this opportunity, but this opportunity is accompanied by quite a few challenges. The President also invited all HMI and KOHATI cadres to be optimistic in facing these challenges.
"There are challenges that we know, but we have to be optimistic, don't be afraid, don't worry. "Optimism is necessary, but it also needs to be realistic," he said.
The President also appealed to the progress that Indonesia currently has not be wasted and cannot be continued because of mistakes in choosing future leaders. Therefore, the President invited the public, including the participants present, to be careful in choosing leaders.
"Be careful in choosing leaders, but we leave everything to the people, because it is the people who have sovereignty," he said.
Also accompanying the President at the event were Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and Acting Governor of West Kalimantan Harisson.
